Word is getting around  that Mark Stark, chef/owner of four restaurants in Sonoma County, has dropped  50 pounds in five months by eating a no-carb, high-protein lunch every day at Stark’s Steakhouse in Santa Rosa’s Railroad Square.

“Following a modified version of the Caveman Diet, I was able to vary my meals, since the menu is a la carte and features so many protein and green veg options,” Stark explained in an e-mail. “Whether it was grilled prime filet on the wedge salad, or wild king salmon with Romesco on a whole leaf Caesar salad.”

Besides making Stark leaner and meaner,   the diet has spawned a new twist to the menu.  Stark’s Steakhouse is now offering a “Caveman” special during lunch, featuring a two-course,  fixed-price menu with choice or protein and green vegetable.

 Te-Quila Mockingbird

2 ounces tequila

1.5 ounces strawberries, muddled

1 lime

½ ounces simple syrup

Few sprigs of torn mint

½ salted rim

Lime wedge to garnish

Shake until well combined. Pour over ice in ½ salted rim glass.
